The Country Garden Showcase #28

Welcome Friends!
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Independence Day holiday.  Our garden is really growing fast these days.  I watched some tomato plants double in size again last week and somehow all of my indian red corn grew taller than the beehive it surrounds practically overnight.  They love the heat, growing vegetable plants.  I don't though.  It makes me cranky and tired.

Below, you'll find a bit of dialog and links to a few posts linked up last week that I found really helpful and I think you might enjoy reading again too...

The mysterious Cranky Puppy blog blogger wrote a great post about saving seeds HERE.  She highlighted a few she'd already been working on namely lettuce and green been seeds.  It was a surprise to me when I first collected my own seeds, just how easy it is to do so.  If you're thinking about harvesting your own vegetable seeds this summer, this post is certainly worth a closer look.  Remember also that not all seeds are equal.  Some seeds do require special treatments to get them to sprout, but if you do a quick Google look up you can find out how to ferment, stratify, or scarify your seeds just like the pros do.

Another post that I found interesting last week was submitted by Mellow of A Life Unprocessed blog.  You can link back to her post HERE.  I recommend you do.  Her post is titled "Identifying and Harvesting Edible Weeds in the Garden" and it contains both helpful information about some edible and non-edible plants and great pictures for identification.

I have one more post to share with you again...  This one is sure to make you smile, I do every time I see the progress of Little Homestead on the Hill blogger Lisa Lynn's little turkey poults through her pictures HERE.  Yes, they DO grow F-A-S-T!

Well, that's it for now.  I have to get out and muck out some pens and milk a few goats.  I hope you have a great week and I look forward to reading all about your new adventures.  Happy gardening.

Heidi

  2. Lol Deb. You're right. I'm exhausted every night right now as my head hits the pillow, but I am having way too much fun for one person. Hugs from Cali,
