Farmgirl Friday #57

Welcome Friends!
This week has been BUSY again... Here are a few pictures.

I learned how to make feta cheese from raw goat milk, Yum!

I herbed this one with fresh basil before it went into the fridge in a salt brine

I made another batch of Jerry's favorite whole wheat and honey bread...

Tonight, I finally planted corn and pinto beans.

I still haven't had the time to complete my pea trellis for the red runner beans to climb.  I better hurry, they're growing FAST.

I mixed up a quick batch of homemade horticultural oil and sprayed my baby apples...  Go HERE to The Sierra Club of Canada's website, they have LOTS of great horticultural oil and insect repellent recipes for specific issues including hot pepper spray and garlic oil spray.  I use the basic oil spray recipe on the first page.

My lilacs are blooming and they smell so good I had to bring some indoors...

Raspberries are blooming and were full of feral bees today.

My new baby almonds are budding out.  I am glad they made it.  They were bare root trees...

Amidst all those baby weeds are a few sugar snap peas growing from seed.

Since the soil has warmed up, I tilled the old greenhouse plot again to break it up to plant my honey bee herb garden...

Say Hi to Penguin.  Isn't she cute?  She's a friendly gal.

The coop has electricity!  The girls love it!

My Salmon Favorelle is so sweet and her beard feathers are starting to come in...

 Queenie, my baby...

Uhoh.  There are baby cukes growing in containers so I better get them in soil quick.

My potatoes are doing well on the hillside

and on the flat too.

I am going to take my first lesson in goat milking tomorrow morning.  Wish me luck.  I was fortunate enough to visit with some nice new friends that have the sweetest herd of Nigerian dwarf goats this week.  I fell in love with their girls.  I want some.  I have to figure out what and where their paddock will be before I can even think of bringing my future ladies home, but after drinking fresh raw goat milk and making goat cheese, I am hooked. I can even imagine goat milk kefir and soaps...  My brain is racing a mile a minute.  I hope I can figure out a way to make them fit into our small suburban half acre.  Well, that's it from here.
