The Country Homemaker Hop Week #1

“The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only - and that is to support the ultimate career. ”
C.S. Lewis

Are YOU a Country Homemaker?
Do you make nutritious meals from scratch, labor in a vegetable garden, or raise livestock?  Do you do these things because of the love you share with your family and a desire to provide the best for your loved ones?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, than like me, you must be a country homemaker and WE WANT YOU!

Please join us each week to share your pictures, recipes, household wisdom, homemaking tips, crafts, ideas and stories with the country homemaking community.

The posts will open to begin linking up on Wednesdays at 12:01 am and will remain open to links all week long, through Tuesday night at 11:59 pm.

It's a new year full of exciting new opportunities.  Life is what we make it.  Let's dig in and discover just what's been going on- on the Country Homestead this week?

Have a Happy New Year!  May 2012 be your best year so far.

Baking Day

Today I have orders for 4 batches of these awesome southern biscuits for my kids.  I went through four batches in about 3 days the last time I made em.  Yummy!

I plan to make myself some cream puffs with vanilla custard filling.

I am going to try the new recipe I found HERE on the American Egg Board's website.

I may try this french toast recipe tonight too!  It looks fantastic!

Then, I will make a few more Stained Glass Sugar and Spritz cookies.

So much sugar, so little time...

Great Mix-in-a-Jar & Mug Mix Gift Ideas

If you follow this LINK you will be taken to the C & H Sugar company's website.  Where you will find lots of great recipes for gifts from your kitchen.  There are recipes for Mix-in-a-Jar recipes, Mix-in-a-Mug recipes, and even DRINK MIX-in-a-Jar recipes.  Lots to choose from.  Here's the address in case the link fails: http://www.chsugar.com/giftideas/gift-mixes/ .   I hope you find something that works for you.  for folks that follow both of my blogs, sorry, I realize I posted a similar recipe yesterday, but that recipe is an old family recipe, not a C & H recipe.

Handmade Gifts for my Furbabies

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Biscuits
I lost my pumpkin biscuit recipe somewhere along the trail so I went searching today online for a new one.  I settled on a recipe with 6 ingredients and many good reviews.  Click HERE to be taken to the recipe at allrecipes.com.  I baked them up and my 3 finicky shih tzu fur babies agree, they're good.   My two boys chocolate and Coco give them 2 paws up and my little female, sugarplum, hoarded a few before she scarfed them down, now she's begging for more too.  I didn't use fancy cookie cutters, this is a sticky dough
and it was easier to roll the dough out into a log and cut into 3/8 thick lengths.
bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until dry.
Here they are done.
Ready to bag up for treats.
These would make a great stocking stuffer for the furbaby in your life.
